West Ashley is one of the top Charleston neighborhoods with major growth of development, schools, and job opportunities.
Older, cute neighborhoods are a staple in the center of West Ashley, off of Highway 17, Sam Rittenburg, and Interstate 61. Most houses are single family homes, with yards for pups and kids, and garages for cars. The massive growth happening in West Ashley can be pinpointed to the outskirts of town along Bees Ferry Road, Glenn McConnell Parkway, and the outer reaches of Highway 61. The large developments are expected to be the filled with young families and workers from the manufacturing expansion of Boeing, Mercedes, Benefitfocus, and more.
All this growth does mean more traffic, and many commuters are eagerly awaiting bigger roads and the extension of West Ashley Circle.
Recreation – Parks and outdoor recreation spaces are planted all over West Ashley. Get fresh air at the West Ashley Greenway (which goes through West Ashley down to Folly) and get historical at Charlestowne Landing. The free disc golf course and miles of walking trails at West Ashley Park keep us in shape and we keep our dogs in shape in the shady dog park at Ackerman Park.
Groceries – Publix, Bi Lo, Harris Teeter, Food Lion, and Costco are all available for grocery shopping in West Ashley.
Dining Out – Avondale’s restaurants are some of the best in town with unique Italian offerings from Al Di La, duck tacos from VooDoo, and surprisingly gourmet bar food from Gene’s. For a more casual night, families get take out from Paisano’s, burgers from Charleston Burger Company, and hibachi from Bushido’s.
