One of the most popular areas of new real estate in Charleston, is located on Johns Island (also spelled John’s Island). Johns Island is a booming suburb of Charleston, located about 10 to 20 minutes away from the downtown peninsula, depending on how far into Johns Island you’re getting.
Families and first time home buyers are flocking to Johns Island for their chance to get a little more bang for their buck – larger lots on which to build new construction, and newly constructed communities with yards, big rooms, and a central location. Residents are happy to find Johns Island’s relatively central to Downtown Charleston, Folly Beach, Kiawah, West Ashley, and a growing community of delicious restaurants and families.
Johns Island Real Estate
With Charleston’s booming real estate market, it’s getting harder and harder to find affordable housing with the features that home-buyers are looking for. It’s also even harder to find land around here. Johns Island is one of the few places in or around Charleston where this is possible. For people looking for the boating/coastal lifestyle, Johns Island features many tidal creeks, rivers (Kiawah and Stono), and the Wadmalaw Sound. Learn more about the Charleston community.
Johns Island also boasts many local farms that provide fresh produce and meats for local restaurants. Driving around the island is a beautiful experience, where you can see the historic Angel Oak, rural farm communities, huge live oak trees, marsh and river views, and wildlife.
Johns Island Growth
Restaurants – Johns Island is home to some of the best restaurants in Charleston, including Wild Olive and The Fat Hen. Further evidence of their growth is the opening of a second Tattooed Moose location on Maybank Highway, opening Summer 2015.
Shopping – A new home supply shopping center is also slated to be built on Maybank Highway, proposed to feature businesses in the interior design, tile, marble, granite or lighting industries. For clothing and other goods, Johns Island has the Freshfields Village (in between Seabrook and Kiawah Island), which includes great boutique shopping like Shop Carolina Girls and a new Lilly Pulitzer store!
